Civil War - castle seiged twice and was quite damaged
Castle repaired by Oliver Cromwell and Charles II

Awesome castle. Spread across quite a large site, nice layout. Lots to see. The castle had lots of quirky characteristics such as decorative arches and original features. Look out for the oldest timber castle doors in Europe c.1190s! Lovely views of the River Wye. Definitely recommend a visit!
